August 24th, 2010
1. Our Final meeting of this year will be August 31st. We will be holding our meeting at Old Bridge Beach. We will meet from 5:30-7:30. Please bring a brown bag supper. I will provide cold drinks.
2. This year officially ends for us on August 31st. You will need to be re-registered by September 1st. Cost is $12.00 for National registration. Financial aid is available. Dues will be discussed at a later date.
3. There will be a community service event at Iuka Mineral Springs Park on September 4th. This is Heritage Day in Iuka. Our event is called Peace, Love, and Pink. We will be passing out literature and pins to promote Breast Cancer Awareness in the community. We will also be marching around the park as a service unit. I do not know exactly what time yet but will let you know.
4. In preparation for the Peace, Love, and Pink event, we will be tie-dying t-shirts pink so that everyone will be dressed uniformly at the park. This will be Friday August 27th at the Iuka Fairgrounds at 6:00 pm. We will have games, crafts, and a spaghetti supper. The cost is free. However, you need to bring a plain white t-shirt to tie-dye. If you can’t make it Friday but still want a shirt for Heritage day be sure to bring one to me before Friday and I will dye it for you. Parents are welcome to send a shirt to be tie-dyed also if you so desire. Parents are encouraged to join us for the Heritage day event and walk with us in our parade.
5. On September 14th we will be having a sign up night for the 2010-2011 year. Each of you must be in complete uniform. You will be acting as guides for any girls that come to sign up night.
6. We now have a facebook page for Tishomingo County Girl Scouts. Just search for it and send me a request to join. Parents and family are encouraged to join. We will post events, pictures etc. It is also a safe group for the girls to chat on if they have facebook.
